The ECC81, also known as the 12AT7, is a medium-gain pre-amplifying double triode. It can serve as a substitute for the 12AX7 in numerous applications. It produces a very smooth and warm sound with minimal microphonics, making it suitable for phase inverters or reverb drivers.
