The Silencer™ is designed to reduce the output power and volume. The iconic rock guitar tones of the sixties and seventies were achieved by guitarists turning their amplifiers up to maximum volume. Tube guitar amplifiers produce the best sound at high volumes, as the output stage begins to saturate, creating the most musical and harmonic distortion, along with wonderful sustain and a rich, full tone. However, playing a 50 or 100 Watt amplifier at full volume can be so loud that it may damage your hearing and become a nuisance to your audience, fellow musicians, or neighbors. The Silencer™ addresses this issue.

It is connected between the amplifier's speaker output and the speakers (or speaker cabinet), allowing complete control over the amount of power output fed to your speakers. Turn up the amplifier to the point where it sounds optimal and then use the Silencer™ to adjust the final volume for your speakers. This way, all the components that contribute to a great guitar tone, such as preamp tubes, driver stage, output tubes, and transformers, are still operating at your preferred settings, ensuring excellent tone. The volume you experience is regulated after the amplifier's output. Power attenuation can be adjusted in 2db increments from full power down to 16db, and from there, you can fine-tune it to complete silence.

The TAD Silencer Power Attenuator, crafted in Germany, is designed for use with combos or between the amplifier and up to two cabinets. For potential combinations, refer to the end of the descriptive text.
