TAD Class A Converter PEN-Tone (price per pair)
TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER including selected EL84 tube and German manual!
The TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER allows the use of EL84 tubes instead of the 6L6GC, 5881, EL34, KT66 and 6V6GT power tubes. The EL84 is used in pure CLASS A mode. For this, the TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER adjusts all operating voltages; automatically and without intervention on the amplifier or its setting.
Class A + cathode bias operation with EL84
- replaces 6L6GC, EL34, 5881, 6V6GT with EL84
- power amp distortion pure, from 8 watts volume!
- triode or pentode operation
- extra soft distortion in triode version
- harmonic distortion for each amp
- subtle compression in clean mode
- Plug and play! No adjustments, no conversion necessary!
Sound, sound, sound!
The CLASS A operation with EL84 has two advantages:
The sound of the CLASS A operation is known to most of the VOX AC30 as legendary. The sound becomes more lively, the amp is more direct and musical; singing sustain and a thick, "three-dimensional" tone with pleasant, light compression and harmonic, controllable distortion are typical.
The volume is reduced as both the CLASS A mode and the EL84 produce less output power, providing the coveted sound of a far-flung amplifier earlier.
PEN tone or TRI tone?
The TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER is offered as PEN-Tone and as TRI-Tone version. The PEN tone does not change the tonal character of the amp, the TRI tone makes the amp much softer in tone. The power output of the amplifier changes noticeably; that is, at much lower volume already uses the power amp distortion. This output stage distortion is always harmonious with the TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER! It always achieves a very good sustain, a full, three-dimensional sound pattern and is perfectly controllable via touch dynamics.
Plug & Play
Installation is easy:
turn off the amplifier, remove the power tubes (EL34, 6L6GC, 5881 or 6V6GT) and insert the TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER into the sockets of the power tubes, turn on the amplifier. Finished!
height:the TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER is without pins 12cm (5cm adapter + 7cm EL84) high.
1cm of air should be left between the tip of the EL84 and the housing to secure installation and ventilation.
There are no settings necessary! The original power tubes are reusable at any time. Since no changes are made to the bias setting for the TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER, the old setting for the old tubes is retained. It can, therefore, be changed at any time.
Conclusion: real plug & play!
OPTIONS Volume / Power
The power output of an amplifier with TAD Class-A Converter depends on the type and number of TAD Class-A converters used:
PEN-Tone: approx. 7-9 watts per adapter
TRI-Tone: approx. 4-5 Watt per adapter
A Twin Reverb (100W) or 100W Marshall with 4 6L6GC or 4 EL34 tubes would deliver power amp distortion at 100W at the following maximum power:
PEN-Tone: 4 pieces approx. 36 watts, with 2 pieces approx. 18 watts
TRI tone: 4 pieces approx. 16 watts, with 2 pieces approx. 8 watts
With amplifiers with only two 6L6GC or EL34 one obtains accordingly with 2 pieces also approx 18 watts.
Do not use with cathode drive amps (eg Musicman® RD series, Peavey®Classic 75/100, etc.).
Always operate amplifiers with Class A / AB switches (eg Fender® Prosonic) in Class AB position.
Do not use in amps with tube serial heating, eg Peavey®Valveking series, Blackstar® Series One
Do not use with amps with automatic bias setting like Hughes & Kettner with TSC system.
Due to the cathode biasing of the TAD CLASS-A CONVERTER, biastremolos such as the Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb, Twinolux and Dual Professional have no function!
