ECF80 / 6BL8, Mullard UK

The ECF80 is a classic triode-pentode vacuum tube, and Mullard's version is among the most sought-after due to its high build quality and tonal characteristics.

In audio circuits:

The triode section provides warm, controlled gain
Pentode can offer more dynamics or be used as a driver stage
Known for smooth highs and a classic British tone profile when used in audio mods

Tube Type:

ECF80 = 6BL8 (U.S. equivalent)
Configuration: One triode + one pentode in a single envelope
Base: B9A (Noval 9-pin)

Applications:

Originally used in TV and radio circuits (frequency converters, RF/IF amplifiers, oscillators)
Later adopted in audio applications, especially:
Guitar amplifiers (preamp or reverb driver)
Hi-fi amplifiers (DIY and vintage designs)
Effects pedals and small signal amplifiers
