Automatic PWM Fuzz and Dynamic Natural Overdrive

Gary originated from a straightforward request to develop a compact iteration of the discontinued Gray Channel, a key component of Lee's board and a significant element of his primary drive tone. This initial concept was promising and yielded impressive results, but there was a compelling need to delve into Gary's more enigmatic aspects, to uncover the 'Gary after dark,' the 'Saturday night Gary.' Consequently, we embarked on a journey to decode the enigma of 'Gare-Bear.' The outcome is a testament to contrast, ranging from silky smooth to utterly raw, encompassing the full spectrum of tonal possibilities.

GARY'S RIGHT BRAIN

It features a dynamic and aggressive fuzz that is both commanding and responsive. This robust fuzz tone, with its envelope-controlled variable pulse width, has ample volume to be explosive. The fierce fuzz converts the signal into a square wave, permitting dynamic adjustment of the duty cycle through pick attack. The "Yes!" knob adjusts the envelope's sensitivity. When dialed down completely, it yields a pure, thick square wave fuzz tone with enduring sustain and silence upon ceasing play.

GARY'S LEFT BRAIN

It showcases a gentler aspect. This overdrive has a straightforward, organic sound that enlivens your tone and excites your amplifier. It's modeled after the green channel of our Gray Channel, reflecting our version of the iconic small yellow overdrive that was our original inspiration. Lee operated this pedal with the clipping switch locked in the central position, bypassing all diodes and yielding a robust, sharp opamp distortion with ample volume available. We've meticulously replicated that sound here. The 'Go' knob adjusts the opamp drive, offering anything from a modest full-range clean boost to a silky, authentic distortion. Paired with 'That’s It', the overall volume control for the drive, Gary’s milder side can act as a clean boost to nudge your amp into overdrive, or you can dial up 'Go' to harness Gary’s inherent wizardry for the precise level of grit you're after.

Gary's signal chain is fixed from fuzz to overdrive, ensuring complete tonal integrity, a configuration that is non-negotiable. This was Gary's firm stance, to which we adhered.
