When Strymon decided to develop an effects pedal that delivers the sound and feel of our favorite tape echo machines, we knew we must relentlessly study and faithfully recreate every last nuance. We spent months in the Strymon sound design labs with an intense focus on capturing the warm, saturated, distinctive qualities of tape echo machines. The result is our hand crafted dTapeﾙ technology. Utilizing a ridiculously powerful SHARC DSP, every drop of processing power is harnessed.
El Capistan provides three different tape machine types in one, each with three unique modes. With ten parameters to tweak, you get extensive control over tape quality, machine health and tone shaping. Go from the sound of a pristine, studio-quality tape machine to the heavily fluctuating sound of a machine in need of service. Get the full bodied sound of fresh tape all the way to the gnarled qualities of worn out tape. Because it's DSP driven, you get a range of tape experiences unattainable with a traditional tape machine. All of this without the headaches of tape machine maintenance and repair!

Excellent quality Review by Elementad
After using this pedal and going back to a previous one to see how it compares, it's shocking to hear how much better the sound out of this Strymon is. Studio quality effect. Premium price but worth it if you can stretch. (Posted on 20/07/2012)
It's out there - My favourite effect ever Review by MrStrat555
It's all here, the reviewers above are spot on; This is one amazing pedal, with rack mount qualities, but also an organic, spacey, handmade by Jesus kudos, if you want to explore what it can do, you'll be busy for weeks. Do yourself a favour, buy a favourite switch with it!
To conclude, I really, really love the El Capistan. The only thing i'd swap it for would be a TimeLine. Enough said! :o)

the best delay pedal ever??! Review by pete24v
I've had many delay pedals over the years and this is the best, others include maxon ad999, boss dm3, ibanez ad80, mxr carbon copy, eh memory man.
I ordered El Capistan and it arrived 2 days later (with the free delivery option)
It's the only delay pedal i've spent a straight 3.5 hours playing after unboxing it. All of the sounds i wanted are in it. Analog style echo's for solos, choppy U2 repeats, Stray Cat slapback and shimmering Hank echos are all easy to dial in
I also have the Brigadier as well, not quite as feature rich as El Capistan, but a different style of echo.

It's more than just a pedal, it's a TARDIS Review by Beano
This pedal is more than just a pedal, it's a TARDIS, wee on the outside, big on the inside, and takes you into outer space. Sounds absolutely amazing, I use it for everything, guitar, drums, vocals and synths, and it sounds best on vocals and analog synthesizers. I've got Roland Space Echoes and Copicats and what not, but this is not just better than any of them, it's now my main musical instrument. Shoegazers will love it for the classic 4AD Cocteaus sound, and spaceheads will love it for its psychedelic Radiophonic Workshop textures. A Must Have for anyone who likes their music weird and wonderful
Hope that's ok, and thank you for my pedal, love it! (Posted on 30/04/2012)
