Groove Tube - Power Pick~More Tone, More Control~The Power Pick adds mass to your pick. Clamps on in seconds .... adds 20 times more mass to increase string volume by up to 5dB. Comments from some other folks that have tried this ....Vintage Guitar mag by Lisa Sharken from Nov '03:Vintage Guitar Vol 18, No. 01 - Nov. 2003 NAMM show review by Lisa Sharken:"The coolest gadget at the show was a prototype: Aspen PItman of Groove Tubes showed an interesting gadget he's calling the Power Pick...it's a metal clip that secures the pick and has a handle the player grasps while playing. YOu hold the pick as you normally would and sort of palm the handle. It may sound like it could be hard to hold, but it isn't. The idea is somewhat a take off on the Fathead and Fatfinger in using metal to add mass to the pick. The result is that you don't have to grip the pick tightly to get a thicker, more solid sound out of the strings, and the tonal response becomes very even and more musical. Aside from the audio benefits, your picking hand wrist is looser since you're not tensing up while squeezing the pick, so it's actually easier to play.We demo'ed the prototype on a Gibson acoustic using the same pick, with and without the Power Pick. It's makes a noticable difference in the tonal response of the strings which could make it an ideal tool for recording. Guitar Player, January 2004 by Michael MolendaGroove Tubes Power PickGroove Tubes founder Aspen Pittman‹who has one of the most fertile and inventive minds in the music-gear industry‹has focused his creative vision on a very small thing: the common guitar pick. His Power Pick ($12 retail for ³Power Pick² apparatus and one Fender medium pick) is said to add 20 times more mass to your favorite plectrum and increase string volume by 5dB. And, yeah, this funky attachment is one weird little ditty. But, like most of Pittman¹s mad ideas, it works. Although, at first, the handle looks like it might be an impediment to your technique, it actually fits quite gracefully inside your palm. After making a 15-degree adjustment to the position of the Power Pick¹s wire neck, I could hold and control the device very naturally. The large model is designed for use with acoustic guitars and basses, and it definitely enhanced the articulation of notes within strummed chords and arpeggios. Single-tone picking was somewhat uncomfortable, as the mass of the larger Power Pick adversely affected my right-hand position. That¹s where the smaller model comes in. Developed for electric guitars and mandolins, the small boy can really tear it up on solos and riffs. The snap and density added to each note you pick is magnificent‹it¹s as if you upped your string gauges or selected a stone or metallic pick without dealing with, well, tighter and chunkier strings and a pick material that won¹t give. Brilliant. Simple. Marvelous.Pros: Makes notes snap and ring more without changing your setup one bit.Cons: Having to explain your tiny ³secret weapon² to annoying guitar geeks.Michael MolendaEditor in Chief, GUITAR PLAYEREditorial Director, MUSIC PLAYER NETWORK~CHOOSE PIC TYPE|GTPOWERPIC|ELECTRIC GUITAR|POWERPIC-GUITAR|BASS / ACOUSTIC|POWERPIC-BASS|~5965~5970~~
