Tannoy (Studio Monitors)
Tannoy is one of the oldest and most prestigious audio brands in the world. Having been founded as the Tulsemere Manufacturing Company back in 1926 and with a presence in the audio industry of almost a century, the brand has a rich history that is ingrained into every loudspeaker it produces. In the early decades, the brand was so well known that the word Tannoy became synonymous with sound, appearing in the dictionary as: 'a communications system with loudspeakers, used for making announcements in public buildings.' In 1947 Tannoy introduced the Monitor Black at the Radiolympia Exhibition in West Kensington, England. Revolutionary in design and concept, Monitor Black completely redefined the achievable levels of music reproduction and playback. While it has been much copied in the year’s since, Tannoy were the world’s first to introduce this kind of Dual Concentric technology – where a high frequency compression horn drive unit is placed concentrically with a direct radiating bass driver.
